John + Karla's Denver, Colorado Elopement

Well, hi there. Thanks for stopping by! I thought I'd kick off my blogging era with a story that I have been DYING to tell since it happened. September/October was an insane month for my business (in the best way) and to say it was full of fun and unexpected twists and turns is an understatement. From United Airlines losing my camera equipment in Italy to this unexpected Colorado elopement, September/October 2024 was a whirlwind!
I met Karla on a Facebook group we are both apart of called "Fun on Weekdays Bridal" which is lead by Jenna Palek, the creator of Fun on Weekdays. I posted an ad for the brides in the group, offering my photography services in exchange for my travel expenses. Karla replied back and we instantly became friends! We spent months planning her Asheville, North Carolina elopement and had everything set in stone.
Then came Hurricane Helene. She really threw a wrench into the mix. I remember clearly walking into a wedding I was photographing here in Louisville, Kentucky on September 28th when Karla texted me telling me that they were going to have to move their elopement due to the hurricane damage. Her and John decided on Denver, Colorado and we replanned her entire elopement in under three days.
As a wedding photographer, you truly have to learn to roll with the punches. Being resilient and "go with the flow" work to your advantage in this industry for sure. All of that to say, I wasn't panicking, but was prepared to help calm Karla down if needed! I cannot imagine the stress that she felt when she got the news that she would have to postpone or move everything to somewhere else entirely.
Things turned out absolutely PERFECT, though. As you can see, Colorado made for a breathtaking backdrop. John and Karla flew in a few days before me and spent that time exploring. They found the most perfect spot in front of a lake in Loveland Pass for their ceremony. They got ready together at their beautiful AirBnb and had the sweetest first look there as well. Karla became a hair and makeup artist with the help of YouTube and I got to be a witness on their marriage license, which is one of my favorite parts about my job. Things truly couldn't have turned out better. Loveland Pass was pretty much empty the day we went, which was unusual for a beautiful fall day like 10/5/2024 was. Everything just fell into place! I'm so thankful that Facebook brought me this sweet couple! It was so much fun getting to navigate all of this alongside of them. They truly rolled with the punches. I love stories like this, though. How, from the outside looking in, everything seems to be going wrong, but everything just fell right into place!
